Hey, June!

Hand Over Your Heartache
Travel Light

This is not about traveling light in the most literal way. Traveling light this month is all about letting go of stuff/thoughts that weigh you down.

Rick Steeves once wrote that the measure of a good traveler is how light he travels.

So, if life truly is a journey, well, on this journey, you better bring what you can carry. Let go of the excess baggage that slows you down. You may not realize it, but you probably don’t need it anyway. We do not want to be cheesy about stuff like this –matters of the heart- but for the sake of getting at least one person unstuck, we say that whatever breaks your heart definitely needs to be crossed off your list.

It could be a person you’ve lost yourself in. I know one too many people hang around with a person they like so much, they’ve become too available to that single person and have absolutely forgotten about themselves and the people around them. We’re not saying this is wrong but when you’ve shut off the world to focus on one person and nothing has been reciprocated; you know deep down it is not worth it.

Or It might be a job –or whatever you’re doing now- that stops you from doing what you really want and love. You can’t do everything at once – I learned this the hard way. Know what is most important to you and make sure you spend time on what matters most. An old man once said to me, whatever or whoever holds your time the most, you love the most.

Do yourself a grand favor. Try and let it go. We always say this: if you’re looking for a sign, this is it. No more excuses. Hand over your heartache and start traveling light.

P.S. Sometimes, words are not enough to heal ruptures of your broken self. Try listening to First Breath After Coma by Explosions in the Sky. Sit down, listen to the track, and I hope it takes you on a journey.
