APRIL : Screamin’ for Ice Cream!

How awesome is it that Google had this on their homepage yesterday:

Very apt for this month’s theme: Cool Off.

Cool off can mean different things to different people. For one, cool off could simply mean that you need a break from whatever: five minutes from writing that college essay application, five days off from a stressful month at work or 5 weeks from your clingy girlfriend or boyfriend.

You could cool off in lot of ways too: visit The Cool Hunter site, skate on ice!, watch a movie (sleep in a movie house), spend a day at the beach, or simply indulge in a scoop or two of your favorite ice cream! Ice cream never fails to cheer me up. (Yes, I’m over 20 years old.)

The first thing I look for at food fairs are the ice cream booths! At last weekend’s Best Food Forward Fair at the NBC Tent, my buddies and I got excited when we found one of Mercato Centrale’s regulars: Mochiko!

Mochiko offers a slew of flavors of mochi ice cream: Green Tea, Red Bean, Black Sesame, Chocolate and Caramel among others. If you’ve no idea what it is, it is basically ice cream-filled mochi (Japanese rice cakes). I love the Black Sesame flavor the best!

Last time I remember I told you guys about that bacon Ice cream we tasted at Mercato Centrale. I wasn’t able to take a picture of the booth nor remembered what the name of the booth that carried it. I always have my hands full with goodies and get distracted with the food around me, I fail to document my day! (I know, I’m such a failure at these things!) But since it’s ice cream appreciation day (made that up 5 seconds ago), best that we talk about that now! After a few seconds of searching, I found them on Facebook! Merry Moo candied bacon ice cream! I know it sounds so foreign but I guess bacon just makes everything better. It’s one of those things that your brain says should never come together but when they do, its magic! Haha. Anyhoo, you can find their booth outside the Mercato Centrale tents:

If you’ve anymore ice cream discoveries, let us know!
It’s always nice to hear from you!
With that, let us leave you with a few trivias about ice cream:

It takes an average of 50 licks to polish off a single-scoop ice cream cone. Challenge your family to a Lick-a-Thon, and see who finishes first!

The ice cream cone’s invention is linked to the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis. An ice cream vendor reportedly didn’t have enough dishes to keep up with the demand, so he teamed up with a waffle vendor who rolled his waffles into cones! -http://www.icecream.com/funfacts/

About five percent of people admit sharing ice cream with their pets!

Vanilla is the most popular flavor. One out of 4 ice creams sold is vanilla.

One of the major ingredients in ice cream is air. In fact, 10 to 25 percent air is desirable. The ice cream mix must be beaten as it freezes to incorporate air. Without it, ice cream would be rock solid and unscoopable!

I think that’s enough for an ice cream discussion, don’t ya think? 😉

LIVE CREATIVELY and don’t forget to cool off!
